Scottish SDGs Reporting Working Group
Humanity is facing an enormous environmental, social and economic challenge, requiring a real urgency to act. Scotland was one of the first countries to adopt the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - a universal call to action to tackle poverty and inequality, protect the planet and ensure peace and prosperity for all.
Scotland’s businesses have a critical role to play in achieving the SDGs, which should also lead to the economic benefit of increased resource efficiency, innovation and resilience. This vision is underpinned by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency’s (SEPA) own regulatory strategy One Planet Prosperity.
The Scottish Sustainable Development Goals Reporting Working Group (SSDGRWG) was launched by SEPA and ICAS (Institute of Chartered Accountants Scotland) on 17 September 2018 in Edinburgh. The main aims of the group were to:
- Make the UN SDGs relevant to local business in Scotland.
- Through effective collaboration, deliver a better society, both at a local level and globally, through understanding Scotland’s role in contributing to the creation of a more sustainable world.
- Achieve this by enabling practical, measurable action by Scottish businesses to deliver the SDGs.
The SDG Compass is the basic framework for implementing the SDGs across the supply chain. The group considered a different stage of the compass at each meeting.
