This year’s Global Goals Jam in Edinburgh has now taken place. Come back soon for more information about the challenges our participants hacked and the ideas that they came up with.

What is the Global Goals Jam?
Global Goals Jam is a worldwide event taking place on 15-17 September 2017, which aims to develop actionable interventions based on the Sustainable Development Goals. It is coordinated by the United Nations Development Programme and MediaLAB Amsterdam.
Through a series of short design sprints over the two-day event, participants hack an idea, design and test prototype solutions to specific challenges set by you!
What’s happening in Scotland?
In 2016, Edinburgh Living Lab at the University of Edinburgh participated in the first ever Global Goals Jam, and they will be hosting a local Jam again this year on 15-17 September 2017, in partnership with the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO). The Jam is open to anyone who is interested and would like to experiment with using design and data methods to come up with innovative and practical ways to achieve the Global Goals.
This year the Jam will focus on specific challenges put forward by organisations and projects based in Edinburgh, with the aim of developing a prototype solution to each challenge by the end of the event. An expert panel including representatives from each sponsoring organization will provide feedback on the prototypes and share and disseminate the learning and ideas generated. The target goals for this year’s Jam are:
How do I get involved?
This year we are looking for four to five sponsors to propose challenges. Sponsors can come from any sector and should have a specific challenge related to the target goals to present to the participants. Sponsorship guidelines and suggestions for challenges can be found here.

Global Goals Jam 2016
Last year, four teams designed three prototypes to address the goals of Affordable and Clean Energy, Sustainable Cities and Communities and Responsible Production and Consumption. Responding to challenges put forward by Scene Community and the Energy Data for All initiative, they developed ‘Collect and Swap’ – a programme to reduce solar waste in rural India; an infographic communicating the value of and potential for off-grid solar energy in India; and a website and communication platform to share information and knowledge about sustainable supply chains.
